I became
a nurse-midwife because the philosophy of midwifery assumes that birth
is a safe, beautiful and normal process. Midwives know that pregnant
and birthing women are not sick, that birth is not inherently
dangerous, and that their new babies are nowhere safer than in their
mother's care.
 |
Midwives
respect pregnancy and birth as pivotal events in a woman's life. In
order for a pregnant woman and her child to have a peaceful birth
experience and respect to which they are entitled, the mother must have
an attendant who truly listens to her and honors her choices. Midwives
are present for the purpose of offering their experience, encouragement
and support.
Flexibility is also a
must with pregnancy and birth: they are dynamic events. I am flexible
to meet your needs and desires, and any situations that may develop.
I
have been a cerified nurse-midwife for over 15 years, doing both home
and hospital births. Seven of those years have been on Kauai. I have
also had three home births myself.
With
these resources, I would like to offer my years of experience to assist
you and your family throughout your pregnancy and birth. |

| Through Home Birth on Kauai,
we offer prenatal care, birthing services, and postpartum care either
in your own home or on our private homestead here in Wailua, on the
east side of Kauai. At our home, we have a large private birthing
suite. It has 2 bedrooms, one for mother and baby, and another for any
support persons, and a large bathroom with a 2 person Jacuzzi
tub, as well as a huge double shower, with 6 massaging shower heads.
There is also an outdoor hot tub/Jacuzzi in a private garden behind
this birthing suite, available to the laboring mother. Finally, there
are 4 acres surrounding the house in which to stroll while waiting for
the baby’s arrival, an orchard for fresh fruit, and a swimming pool,
all with views of Wai’ale’ale, the Makaleha mountain ridge and distant
waterfalls. |
